HighFive, the technology subsidiary of HF, is today launching its AI-driven claims handling solution, in collaboration with the University of Salford.
ELI (Expert Legal Intelligence), is a revolutionary AI-driven claims handling system. As opposed to a typical AI or tech company-produced system, it’s trained using expert legal knowledge from HF’s specialist insurance lawyers and counter-fraud experts.
ELI has been developed in conjunction with the University of Salford, with their oversight ensuring that the software and its outcomes are ethically considered, and with the aim of removing bias, reinforcing HighFive’s commitment to responsible AI development.
The system has been designed to rely solely on the data inputted into it, without drawing from general internet sources, ensuring its confidentiality.
As well as processing information, ELI applies real legal intelligence to claims handling. It supports claims handlers by carrying out core administrative tasks eg summarising documents, creating timelines, identifying inconsistencies and improving correspondence. But has also been trained to:
- Review and analyse indemnity, liability, fraud, and quantum
- Assess credit hire payment packs, applying expert legal skills and knowledge
- Assist handlers with intelligence investigations, including fraud detection and risk profiling
The key differentiator of ELI is that it is AI powered by people. Its foundations are based on the skills and knowledge of lawyers, ensuring it delivers best in class legal decision-making with accuracy, efficiency, and, crucially, compliance.
This state-of-the-art software will help insurers, claims handlers, and legal teams to improve efficiency, reduce indemnity spend and improve fraud detection, maximising the value of the expertise within their claims teams.
David Scott, Managing Director of HighFive, said: “ELI isn’t just another AI solution—it’s built differently. We at HighFive develop the technology and HF’s top lawyers train it to think like a legal expert. This gives insurers the best of both worlds: cutting-edge AI that is grounded in real-world legal expertise, making claims handling faster, smarter, and more cost-effective.”
Ronan McCann, CEO & Managing Partner of HF commented, “ELI represents a step-change in the way motor insurance claims are handled. It brings together AI and human expertise to streamline processes while maintaining the highest legal standards. This is about augmenting claims handlers, not replacing them, ensuring better outcomes for insurers and their customers.”
Dr Alejandro Garcia-Miranda Ferrari, Collaborative R&D Manager at the University of Salford, added: “At the University of Salford, we ensure our research not only meets the highest academic standards but also translates into practical solutions. Our partnership with HighFive is the perfect example of this. ELI will transform the handling of motor insurance claims going forward, which will speed up the whole process.”
