April, 4, 2018

Horwich Farrelly has offered full-time contracts to six former trainee solicitors following their successful qualification. All were admitted to the Law Society’s Roll of Solicitors yesterday, 3 April, having started their 18-month training contract with the firm in autumn 2016.

Hassan Atti, Joanne Johnson, Sarah Jones, Emily Mountshaw and Sarah Potter are based at the firm’s Manchester headquarters, and Caroline Rand is based in the Liverpool office. The appointments represent the breadth of services offered by the firm with two each working within Counter Fraud and Motor & Casualty, and one each in Credit Hire and Costs.

Ronan McCann, Partner, commented: “At Horwich Farrelly we have a commitment to nurturing home-grown talent, which includes a policy to only offer training contracts to existing employees. Once again we have been hugely impressed with the talent displayed by those offered contracts and are delighted to have been able to retain all six of our newly qualified solicitors.

“It is particularly rewarding to see that two of the new solicitors had been redeployed from our claimant arm, Zest Legal, which closed to new business last summer. Whilst the decision had been made for the firm to focus on defendant work, we were determined to retain and grow talent of those previously working within Zest.”

“It is also great to see that so many of the new solicitors joining the profession are women. Together with 14 of the 19 associates promoted in December 2017 being female, today’s announcement reflects our commitment to gender equality.”

The firm is also a co-founder of the UK’s first ever legal apprenticeship, and works with CILEx Law School to deliver the highly successful scheme. Since the apprenticeship programme was launched in 2013, Horwich Farrelly has recruited more than 50 legal apprentices.
