Horwich Farrelly has announced it has raised £14,619 for the Alzheimer’s Society following a year of fundraising. The amount – which was raised by employees from all six of Horwich Farrelly’s offices – smashes the firm’s original fundraising target of £10,000.

The Alzheimer’s Society was selected as Horwich Farrelly’s nominated charity for 2016 following a vote by the firm’s 730 employees. A calendar of fundraising events was held ranging from the more traditional sponsorship of employees taking part in the Great Manchester Run and bake sales, to the more unconventional Santa Dash and a ‘liquid lunch’ where a dozen Partners, Associates and Directors agreed to take a barrage of cold, wet sponges to the face in return for a donation.
As well as raising money for the charity, the firm’s employees also helped increase awareness of the issues around dementia. This included dozens of employees taking part in Memory Walks around the country to remember loved ones, and a further fifty people volunteering to be ‘Dementia Friends’, an initiative which looks at the small ways we can help people with the condition.
According to the Alzheimer’s Society, there are an estimated 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK. With the figure expected to increase to 1 million by 2025, raising awareness of the condition and funding research into a cure is more important than ever.
A cheque for the total amount raised was recently presented to Aimée Maguet of the Alzheimer’s Society by Rob Barrett, Managing Partner of Horwich Farrelly. Aimée said “The support of companies like Horwich Farrelly is invaluable, raising awareness of our work, as well as funds to help us continue to help people affected by dementia.”

“This is a fantastic total and the donations will be used to provide practical advice and support for those living with dementia as well as fund vital research into the condition. We’d like to thank everyone at Horwich Farrelly who really pulled out all the stops with a committed programme of fundraising activities through the year.”
Rob Barrett, Managing Partner at Horwich Farrelly added: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our employees, their friends and family, suppliers and clients who helped us to achieve such an amazing result for the charity. We are delighted with the end result and being able to play a part in the battle to end dementia.”
