Horwich Farrelly continues to invest in future talent as ten third year legal students successfully complete the firm’s first ever Vacation Scheme, with full time roles offered to seven.

Responding to growing demand from law students wanting to gain experience of working in a thriving practice, Horwich Farrelly launched the Easter Vacation Scheme for law graduates for an extended period of two weeks rather than the traditional five day placement offered by most firms.
The paid scheme, which ran from 3- 13 April 2017, offered the cohort an insight into life as a trainee solicitor at Horwich Farelly’s counter fraud team in Manchester.
Over the fortnight the group benefitted from a wide variety of work-based activities, including shadowing experienced lawyers, attending trials and taking part in a mock trial.
Each student was assigned a training buddy to provide support and guidance throughout the placement, and professional development sessions offered CV writing advice, interview tips and how to get the most out of LinkedIn.
One of those offered a permanent role at the end of the placement was Holly Golding, who is studying Law at the University of Liverpool. Holly commented “With more and more young people choosing to study law having hands-on work experience can really give you the edge when embarking on your legal career.

“Horwich Farrelly has a strong reputation for nurturing talent and career development so I was excited when I heard the firm had launched a vacation scheme. The whole team was so welcoming, in particular my training buddy Naila, and we had a full schedule of activities to give us a real taste of working as a trainee solicitor. You could really tell the firm had spent a lot of time planning the two weeks.”
Rob Barrett, Managing Partner for Horwich Farrelly explained, “The vacation scheme forms part of our ongoing commitment to harnessing talent from the next generation of hardworking, passionate and ambitious people.
“Although this was the first time we have launched this kind of placement, we still received over 70 applications from an extremely high calibre of delegates and then faced the tough job of whittling them down to just ten. We were delighted with how the students performed over the two weeks, in particular their drive and enthusiasm, and we look forward to welcoming many of them to the firm as full-time employees once they have completed their studies.”
