Horwich Farrelly’s Chairman, John O’Roarke, has been named Industry Achiever of the Year at the prestigious Insurance Times Awards 2016.
The awards, which were held in London on 1 December, seek to recognise the best insurers, brokers, service providers and partners within the industry. Alongside the 31 published categories, the organisers also reveal the person they feel has made the biggest mark on the industry over the last 12 months.
Unlike the other awards, the accolade of Industry Achiever of the Year is decided solely by Insurance Times, with previous winners including esure founder Sir Peter Wood and Admiral’s former CEO, Henry Engelhardt.
The event, attended by more than 1,200 people, saw insurance heavyweight, John O’Roarke, scoop the much coveted accolade.
Accepting the award, John said “It’s a massive privilege to receive this award. I’d like to thank all my former friends and colleagues at Churchill and LV= and everyone at Horwich Farrelly with whom I am now working. They are all the ones who really earned this award.”
During a career spanning more than 30 years, John has held senior roles including Chief Operating Officer for RBS Insurance, Managing Director of Churchill Insurance and Managing Director of LV=. Between 2013–16, he was also Chairman of the Insurance Fraud Bureau and Chair of the ABI’s Financial Crime Committee. Shortly before stepping down from his role at LV=, John was appointed Chairman of specialist industry law firm Horwich Farrelly in February.
Other notable winners on the night include Aviva who picked up awards for both Commercial Lines Insurer of the Year and General Insurer of the Year.
