David joined Horwich Farrelly’s Counter Fraud department in 2011 and now runs a large team specialising in the defence of a variety of dishonest claims. In 2015, the team was recognised for the market leading results achieved alongside one insurer securing four industry awards. The scheme was also commended by Secretary of State for Justice, Chris Grayling. In 2016, the team was shortlisted as finalists for two further awards alongside another insurer.
Notable cases David has worked on include Fish v Hillman, the first finding of fundamental dishonesty in an LSI case, and Burnett v Aviva which led to the first ever prosecution by the Attorney General in a case involving insurance fraud. David has appeared on the BBC documentary series, Claimed and Shamed, and he regularly speaks at legal conferences on subjects including fundamental dishonesty and QOCS.
